New exploit discovered in Internet Explorer

Microsoft Security Advisory is reporting that a new exploit has been found in Internet Explorer and that users may immediately take notice to ensure a secure environment on their PCs.

As by Microsoft:

Microsoft is investigating a privately reported vulnerability in Microsoft Video ActiveX Control. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could gain the same user rights as the local user. When using Internet Explorer, code execution is remote and may not require any user intervention.

Which means that this exploit will allow a hacker to hijack a computer remotely by the victim simply visiting a compromised web site.

The exploit is targeted towards the users on Windows XP though the users on Vista and Windows 7 might be affected in some other ways. The only solution is to remove support for this ActiveX Control within Internet Explorer.

Follow this workaround to manually de-active ActiveX Control from running within IE. A security-patch by Microsoft is on the way through Windows Update.

Those who use Firefox and Google Chrome as their primary browsers are safe and may not need to apply this patch.
